Two weeks away from releasing their fifth studio album and with plenty of tour dates already announced close to their home base, Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. on Friday added some North American plans that will bring them to Milwaukee’s Landmark Credit Union Live on April 30 for a show presented by 88Nine.
The group is a little more than two years removed from dropping 2024 record Romance, which turned out to be the first Platinum-certified effort of their career. It was also a bit of a risk, as they shifted toward an arena-filling sound vs. their grittier post-punk leanings.
Still, the band’s darkness remained pretty much intact on Romance, and it’s there on lead single “Marianne” from the upcoming Dopamine Chamber, which gets its release Oct. 16. A week before that, tickets to Fontaines D.C.’s show at Landmark Live will go on sale to the general public. If you go that route, they’ll be available online via Ticketmaster starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
Artist bio
Fontaines D.C.’s Dopamine Chamber follows 2024’s Romance, the album that took the Dublin five-piece from critical favorites to one of the biggest bands in the world.
Romance debuted at No. 2 in the U.K. and delivered the band their first entry on the Billboard 200. It earned two Grammy nominations (Best Rock Album and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Starburster”) and helped them win International Group of the Year at the 2025 BRIT Awards, the band’s second BRIT win. It also took the Album Award at the 2024 Rolling Stone UK Awards and Ireland’s Choice Music Prize while being shortlisted for the Mercury Prize.
Announced with lead single “Marianne” and its accompanying video directed by Dave Meyers, Dopamine Chamber arrives with potent balladry and anthemic melodies glinting through the murk. In a world tipping toward collapse, it asks how pleasure mutates amid peril and what our pursuit of it reveals about us. It’s the sound of a band moving decisively away from the guitar language of their early records into something colder, stranger and more synthetic.
Dopamine Chamber takes its title from the idea of a record as a room the listener steps into. “The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” vocalist Grian Chatten said. “You step inside and we test these different mind- or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”
