It's the August edition of State of Sound, our monthly showcase for some of the best talent Wisconsin has to offer. With drinks by Discourse and our Walker's Point studios serving as the backdrop, this month's show is sure to deliver with a lineup featuring:
Waldemar — A heartland indie rock band (think The War on Drugs and The National with a dash of Willie Nelson) based in Eau Claire, Waldemar combine soaring vocals and poignant, confessional lyrics against a dense backdrop of sweeping guitar tapestries and synth textures (Bandcamp link).
ANDII — Her powerful, unique voice draws from the traditions of American jazz and folk vocalists of the 50’s and 60’s, while her writing and performative style lean towards contemporary pop sensibilities (Bandcamp link).
Long Mama — Debut album Poor Pretender is a 10-song palette of country, folk, indie rock and punk that reflects its makers' coming-of-age in the rustbelt crossroads of north, south, east and west (Bandcamp link).
Secret Menu — This four-piece alternative rock band writes songs true to experience with a style that blends storytelling verses and dense vocal harmonies with a classic rock sound.

RIP – A Musical Comedy of Life & Death speaks to regret and redemption. At the McCobb Mortuary, The Living tend to their tasks while The Dead bemoan their earthly failings, and await their fate. The undertaker’s lonely apprentice is a jilted lover who maintains a forlorn hope for his own destiny while he prepares The Dead for their journey into the Great Beyond. RIP reminds us that what comes next is less important than what we leave behind.
With 16 new songs from Milwaukee composer, Robert Grede, RIP is “a fun frolic with love, laughter, suspense… and a twist at the end.”
Tickets are $40 and available for purchase online or by phone. Some discounts are available.
