MKE Concert Pick: Black Elephant reunite at The Cooperage

Milwaukee’s concert scene has a lot going on, so we look at the shows coming up to find the ones you’ll look back on and be glad you went. Then we add them to our weekly Milwaukee Concert Picks sponsored by Educators Credit Union.

This is Thanksgiving week — a time to see friends we haven’t for a while and get together with people who left a mark on our lives. So we couldn’t imagine a more appropriate show to point you toward than legendary Milwaukee hip-hop trio Black Elephant’s one-night-only reunion at The Cooperage this Friday, Nov. 29.

While Verbal (Derrick Harriell), Element (Element Everest-Blanks) and Dameon (Dameon Ellzey) released debut album Hiatus in 2002, Friday’s show puts their follow-up in the spotlight. Eat This Album came out in July of 2004 and earned a shout from The Source magazine in its “Off the Radar” section. On an LP of standout tracks, “Nutrition” managed to poke its head higher than the rest and is still lauded as one of the best to ever come out of Milwaukee.

You’ll hear “Nutrition” as part of Friday’s 20th anniversary celebration of Eat This Album featuring the reunited Black Elephant, plus DJ Bizzon and other special guests. Things get started at The Cooperage at 7 p.m.
