Turner Hall will welcome Shakey Graves this October

Pabst Theater Group

On the same day that he released Fondness, Etc., his fifth studio album, Shakey Graves announced a tour that shares that name and will visit Turner Hall Ballroom on Oct. 29.

The new record feels very connected to Graves’ DIY foundation and has been called “a full creative reset” that features lo-fi sounds, the warmth of analog vs. digital production, hushed vocals, moody guitars and welcome imperfections. All of those support a theme reflecting the title of “dad” he added in 2024 with the birth of his daughter.

Graves provided a taste by releasing the track “No Place To Be” in advance of the full album, choosing a song he had kicking around for a long time but never found a place for. “It’s a new recording, but it’s the oldest song on the record, to the point where I don’t even remember when I wrote it,” he said in a release. “For a long time, I felt like it was saccharine. But now it feels like a very sweet and to-the-point song that I want to share with my child.”

Graves will share those new songs at his Turner Hall Ballroom show Oct. 29, tickets for which go on sale at 10 a.m. this Wednesday online via AXS and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices. Through a partnership with PLUS1, $1 per ticket goes to supporting the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund that provides emergency financial assistance and other forms of support to career musicians, road crew and anyone who makes the majority of their income in the music business.

Artist bio

Shakey Graves (the performance moniker of Austin, Texas-born Alejandro Rose-Garcia) has built a career at the crossroads of blues, folk and rock ‘n’ roll. He became known for his one-man-band set up, which originated after he grew tired of having to borrow kick drums and high hats in order to perform. His solution consisted of a modified suitcase that functions as both a kick drum and a tambourine stand built by a close friend.

In his career since then, Graves has intentionally created thrilling musical adventures tailored to each fan: burning CDs and putting them in personalized decorated bags; building intricate scavenger hunts that send fans in search of unique tapes; and Bandcamp-exclusive releases.

"The fans and musicians that really resonate with me — and the inexplicable ways that I find things that I like — are usually entirely through randomness and chaos and accident," Rose-Garcia said in a release. "I've always been on this quest to make people feel like my own music is a choose your own adventure."
