The irony of a man who didn't drive for fear of premature death, dying in a car crash.

Mark Feld, later rechristened as Marc Bolan was born on this day in 1947. Bolan was the founder and lead singer/guitarist for T.Rex. Despite owning the aformentioned Rolls Royce, Bolan didn’t drive, fearing premature death but used automotive imagery in a number of songs. Ironically, as a passenger in his girlfriend Gloria Jones (who sang the original “Tainted Love”) MINI, he was killed instantly in a car crash two weeks shy of his 30th birthday. The crash site remains a shrine to this day.
