Devin Drobka shares a ruminative new track, 'Rims'

For this week's premiere, we've got the latest from drummer/composer Devin Drobka, one of the most prolific players in Milwaukee's jazz scene and beyond (he's also a member of a number of bands including Field Report). He's got a new piano trio record called "Resorts" coming out on May 27 on the Minneapolis label Shifting Paradigm, and he's shared its ruminative opening song "Rims." You can stream and read about the piece below.

Artists' statement

The recording was recorded, mixed and mastered here in Milwaukee (Wire and Vice with Daniel Holter and Mystery Room Mastering with Justin Perkins). I believe in keeping things as local as possible and I want that to be reflected into every aspect of the recording process.

The album features longtime friends Matt Blair on piano and Aaron Darrell on bass. I wrote all of these tunes over a two-year-period and saved them on the voice memo app on my phone. I don't know if this is a fun fact but the record almost didn't happen due to the fact that I was right in the middle of finalizing my divorce so in a way this is one of my most personal albums and a very cathartic one at that. This album and set of songs is about the deep change and joy we can experience everyday and resorts we take refuge in in order to grow and become loving beings.
