Every week, 88Nine brings you a fresh track from a Milwaukee artist. They send it to us. We post it here. You hear it before everyone else.

For this week’s premiere, we’ve got some soulful heat from Milwaukee’s emerging Dope Music Crew, a collective of singers, songwriters and rappers. The crew covers a lot of ground on their new track “Can’t Get High,” touching on classic soul, gospel, rock and J. Cole-styled hip-hop. It all comes together beautifully, paying off with a rousing, guitar-singed crescendo.

Artists’ statement

This record “Cant Get High” is about wanting more than what you are getting. Whether it be love in a relationship, more unity in the community or just more out of life than just all the craziness.

We will be releasing our debut self-titled EP “Dope Music Crew” early spring of this year. Our next show is March 7 at Company Brewing, “Dope Music Crew Presents: Family Affair Vol. 1 featuring: Shonn Hinton and Shotgun.”
