Three groups that can trace their beginning to the early ’90s and have demonstrated remarkable staying power in the time since will be in Brew City within a couple weeks of each other, as Sunny Day Real Estate, Bright Eyes and Nickel Creek come to town.
Sunny Day Real Estate: April 21 @ the Pabst Theater
The on-again-off-again indie rock legends have been very much on since relaunching the group in January 2022 with founding members Jeremy Enigk, Dan Hoerner and William Goldsmith. Rounding out the lineup are Greg Suran, who had a previous stint with SDRE at the turn of the millennium, and Chris Jordan, who handles the bass slot previously occupied by current Foo Fighter Nate Mendel.
The leg of the tour that includes Milwaukee is an extension of sorts, as the band had to postpone part of its reunion sojourn in late November after Goldsmith broke a bone in his hand. They’ll knock out those rescheduled shows first, and then take off around the Midwest, including the Friday night show here. You can pick up tickets right now online, and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
Bright Eyes: May 10 @ the Pabst Theater
Conor Oberst’s project with Mike Mogis and Nathaniel Walcott seems to play well in Milwaukee, as the trio will make their return a little more than a year after visiting the Riverside last March. They’ll be at the Pabst this time around to kick off a very limited run of nine shows, culminating at Corona Capital Guadalajara.
The group is in the midst of a reissuing frenzy, taking care of their first three albums early last year and the next set of three this past November. That makes a set list pulling from their full catalog a strong possibility, which you can find out for yourself by picking up tickets when they go on sale later this week.
Presales include a Spotify version going on right now, an artist option at 10 a.m. Wednesday and one for Pabst eMembers at noon Thursday. The general sale gets underway at 10 a.m. this Friday, Feb. 17, online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
Nickel Creek: June 10 @ the Riverside Theater
The bluegrass/folk/acoustic pop trio have come a very long way since their first gig at a California pizza joint in 1989. While performing with each other and their various other projects — including Punch Brothers and I’m With Her — those grade-schoolers have gone on to score a gaggle of Grammy nominations and wins, and even a MacArthur “Genius Grant.”
Nine years after their last reunion, they’re back together to release upcoming album Celebrants on March 24 and set off on a tour that’ll be here June 10. Tickets for that show are available now online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
