Coldplay announces Camp Randall concert as part of world tour

Live Nation

It’s been more than a quarter-century since Camp Randall Stadium in Madison hosted a live concert — a drought that’ll end next year, when Coldplay visit as part of a world tour.

The show scheduled for July 19 has been an open secret for the last couple days as the band dropped thinly veiled hints throughout the middle of the Badger State. It started when they held a listening party for new album Moon Music at the Moon Saloon in Moon, Wisc. — about two hours north of Madison — and continued as the Camp Randall DJ played back-to-back Coldplay songs toward the end of this past Saturday’s football game against Purdue.

The Wisconsin Badgers social media accounts went even further Sunday with a post that ended with the band’s official “Music of the Spheres World Tour” video playing on the scoreboard at Camp Randall.

The Badger State is one of just seven that Coldplay will visit during next year’s run of shows, which also includes stadium dates in Colorado, Nevada, Massachusetts, Texas, Tennessee and Florida. The July 19 concert at Camp Randall is the band’s first in Wisconsin since a 2009 show at Alpine Valley and is the stadium’s first since another notable U.K. band — The Rolling Stones — performed there in 1997.

To get tickets, you can register for the presale on Ticketmaster between now and 8 a.m. this Thursday, Oct. 10. The artist presale begins at 9 a.m. this Friday, with a general sale getting underway at noon the same day on the Wisconsin Badgers website.
