Remi Wolf’s first spotlight performance in Milwaukee has been a long time coming.
More than two years ago, the ascendent alt-pop artist was scheduled to appear at Summerfest but ultimately joined an unusually long list of cancellations for the 2022 festival. Let’s all cross our fingers that the “unforeseen circumstances” leading to Wolf’s last-minute dropout stay far, far away between now and next April 14, when she headlines the Riverside Theater.
Prior to that snake-bitten Summerfest show, Wolf’s arrow was pointing up in a big way thanks to debut album Juno, which put a whacked-out spin on technicolor pop. Almost three years later, she exhibited an evolved sound on Big Ideas that bounced around from sweaty disco to synth-fueled love songs.
More than just pushing the boundaries of genre, the new album saw Wolf really stretching the limits of her vocal instrument. It strains and rasps at various points throughout Big Ideas, showing just how far she’s willing to push herself from project to project.
It’s six months between now and the April 14 show at the Riverside, so let’s all cross our fingers and look forward to finally seeing her center stage in Milwaukee. Tickets for the show will first be available via a presale at noon Thursday (password: PUMPKIN), followed by a general sale online and at the Pabst/Riverside box offices at 10 a.m. Friday.
