Jack White played The Vanguard’s anniversary party Thursday night

We don’t have official attendance numbers for the barnstorming tour Jack White is currently delighting his fans with, but there’s a good chance Thursday night’s show was his most intimate yet.

We’re not talking about his gig at Madison’s High Noon Saloon, which — as has become typical for this tour — White announced the same day. No, he decided to pull off a Thursday double dip in Wisconsin and traversed I-94 fast enough to pop up at The Vanguard’s 10th anniversary party.

It’s an eyebrow-raising addition to White’s impromptu tour (impromptour?) that might make you wonder whether the local sausage-focused establishment won a raffle or something. The explanation is pretty simple, though, as the Detroit guitar god goes way back with The Vanguard co-owner Chris Schulist and — more recently — visited the bar/restaurant during the Milwaukee stop of his 2022 tour.

We, of course, made our own plea for White to visit the city as soon as we found out he’d be in Madison on Thursday night. And while we can’t take credit for his stop at The Vanguard because we had absolutely nothing to do with something that was likely arranged weeks if not months ago, we were very excited to see our pleas for him to do a Milwaukee gig answered.

That being said, Mr. White, our performance space is available today.
