What’s old is nu again, it seems — nu metal, that is.
I’m about as embarrassed by that opening line as I am about being a fan of the genre while walking the campus streets of Madison in the early 2000s. Did I have multiple Korn, Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park albums? Yes I did. But the mistakes we make bring us to where we are today.
And where we are today is … reporting on Linkin Park’s arena tour that just added a series of dates, including Aug. 25 at Fiserv Forum. In a very exciting footnote, 88Nine favorite Jean Dawson will be a special guest at the show, which was one of more than 50 that joined the schedule for Linkin Park’s “From Zero World Tour.”
You may have noticed the band in music headlines recently for the somewhat-rocky process of bringing a new singer into the fold. Emily Armstrong, previously of Dead Sara, essentially fills the role left by Chester Bennington, who died by suicide in 2017.
In general, fans responded positively to the news of Armstrong joining the group, although that initial reaction was tempered by controversy involving That 70s Show star Danny Masterson. She quickly cleared the air, and it appears most people moved on.
Speaking strictly from the music side of things, Linkin Park shared a new single (“The Emptiness Machine”) earlier this year and this Friday will release their first album with Armstrong on vocals, From Zero.
If you’re interested in getting tickets to Linkin Park’s Aug. 25 show at Fiserv Forum, there are no fewer than nine presales to choose from, the first of which starts at 10 a.m. Monday. The general public gets their first crack at tickets at noon next Thursday, Nov. 21. More information on all of that can be found at Ticketmaster’s event page.
