Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit coming to the Riverside next June

Pabst Theater Group

Milwaukee tends to step up when Jason Isbell comes to town, as evidenced by the sold-out show he played with The 400 Unit in September of 2023. So it makes sense that the alt-country icon will return to the Riverside Theater next June 25 as part of a North American tour.

Isbell had plenty to celebrate the last time he visited Milwaukee. He had just released his ninth studio album, Weathervanes, which went on to win a pair of Grammy awards for Best Americana Album and Best American Roots Song (“Cast Iron Skillet”). He was also just a month away from showing up in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon in his first major acting gig (with apologies to his vocal performance as pastor Kyle Nubbins in Squidbillies).

Isbell actually wrote Weathervanes track “King of Oklahoma” while on the set of Scorsese’s movie and even took a few cues from the legendary director’s inclusive approach. “It definitely helped when I got into the studio,” he recalled. “I had this reinvigorated sense of collaboration. You can have an idea and you can execute it and not compromise — and still listen to the other people in the room.”

After their most recent studio album, Isbell & The 400 Unit released Live From The Ryman Vol. 2 this past October, pulling together 15 tracks from a string of sold-out shows at the venerable Nashville venue.

It’s likely next June’s Milwaukee concert will be another capacity affair, and there are a couple ways you can score tickets. We’ll be giving them away on 88Nine all this week before they go on sale, and we’ll also have an online content posting this Friday. Tickets will be available to the general public that same day starting at 10 a.m. via the Pabst Theater Group’s online vendor or the Pabst/Riverside box offices.
