“You can equip your lover with the truth, but they might still lie to themselves,” Monica says of “Cruel.” “There is a point where, if you know they aren’t going to manage their expectations as a grown ass person, you’re cruel to not call the incompatibility and leave…”
One of the most interesting bands to come out of Wisconsin in the last 5 years has to be Baraboo’s Phox. Unfortunately, as all good things come to an end, so did Phox. In 2017, Phox’s frontwoman Monica Martin teamed up with producer Violents to release “Awake And Pretty Much Sober.” Then silence.
If you follow the Baraboo native on Instagram, you realize she went out west to Los Angeles to work on music, and to have some fun (I assume). Today, she returns with a brand new song titled, “Cruel.” The song will be from a forthcoming EP due out in 2019 on Republic Records. “Cruel” was produced by Eg White, who has worked with Adele, Florence & The Machine, and Sam Smith.
Take a listen to “Cruel” below.
