Rhythm Lab Radio is in Philadelphia now

One of Radio Milwaukee's flagship shows is headed to Philadelphia.

Philadelphia public music radio station WXPN will add Rhythm Lab Radio to its on air schedule on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET, starting today. Rhythm Lab Radio is produced by 88Nine Radio Milwaukee(WYMS-88.9FM) and hosted by Tarik Moody.

“We’re beyond excited to be adding Rhythm Lab Radio, as we’ve been fans of the show and it’s going to make a great addition to our lineup,” said Bruce Warren, WXPN Assistant General Manager for Programming. “From jazz and hip-hop to soul music and beyond, Tarik’s music knowledge and the way he presents the music is quite simply spectacular. XPN listeners and members are in for a treat, and this show speaks to XPN’s long-term mission of musical discovery.”

WXPN, which produces the NPR-syndicated daily music program World Cafe, is the third station to carry Rhythm Lab Radio, joining Vocalo 91.1 FM at WBEZ in Chicago and WHRV-89.5 FM in Norfolk, Va. WUNC-91.5 FM in North Carolina will also begin carrying the program soon.

Moody said, “This is especially exciting because WXPN is a leader in music discovery in the country, and Philadelphia is home to some of our favorite artists that we have featured over the past 15 years.”

Moody started Rhythm Lab Radio in 2005 on Minnesota Public Radio. The show moved to Milwaukee in 2007 when 88Nine Radio Milwaukee launched. The weekly, two-hour program redefines the urban sound with a mix of jazz, electronic, hip-hop and soul music, with each episode introducing listeners to new artists that are testing boundaries and making music that does not fit neatly into a single box. In its 15-year history, Rhythm Lab Radio has been the first to play several now-famous artists including Lianne La Havas, Michael Kiwanuka, The Internet and Kamasi Washington.
