As a part of an ongoing series of global EDM and electronic music in general, I produced a mixtape of South African house music this weekend.
Really, though, South Africa is hotbed for electronic music in general and house music in particular. In the SA, house music is a part of pop. It's not unusual for house producers on their top 40 charts.
The thing that makes SA house so interesting -- and exotic even -- is the preponderance of tribal style grooves and vocals in tribal tongues that, when hitting at the 120bpm house tempo, totally gets you grooving in a way that's both different and familiar.
