NEWSKI rounds out Friday’s all-star Generac Stage at Summerfest

What’s been a very solid Summerfest 2023 really jumps a level this upcoming final weekend. Jenny Lewis, The Regrettes, The War on Drugs, The Mountain Goats, Momma, Fleet Foxes — the truly excellent options make for several opportunities to park yourself at one stage for an “all killer, no filler” day of music.

Friday’s lineup at the Generac Power Stage was already set up to be one of those days. It starts the moment the gates open with Madison-area bands The Cuz and Disq (the latter being one of my biggest recommendations of the festival), adds some Cafuné in the middle, and closes out with Built to Spill and Japanese Breakfast.

Then, in a late move, Summerfest went and added NEWSKI in the 5:30 p.m. slot, bringing a dose of quality local flavor to create an absolute Murderers’ Row of music.

The all-caps iteration of Brett Newski’s musical stylings debuted this year and brought a new record with it: Friend Rock, which dropped April 7 and includes the single “Freak Flag Fly” (one of our Milwaukee Music Premieres earlier this year). He’ll bring those songs to the Generac stage for your dinnertime listening pleasure as you enjoy this daylong feast:
