Each Thursday morning on Radio Milwaukee we — the Journal Sentinel’s Piet Levy and 88Nine’s Jordan Lee — talk about the music coming into and the music coming out of Milwaukee on Tap’d In.
On this week’s episode, we’re looking forward to the Grammy’s on Jan. 26.
There are a surprising number of musicians with ties to Milwaukee nominated for awards this year, especially in jazz categories, with Brian Lynch up for an award and Dan Nimmer also nominated for Best Latin Jazz album.
Danny Gokey, best remembered as an “American Idol” contestant, is up for his second nomination in the Best Contemporary Christian category. And producer Bizness Boi is up for some nominations, too. He co-produced the Lil Nas X track “Kick It” from the rapper’s EP “7,” which is up for Album of the Year. Bizness Boi also has a production credit on “Oh Wow…Swerve” from “Revenge of the Dreamers III,” a compilation album released by J. Cole that’s been nominated for Best Rap Album.
And of course there’s Justin Vernon and Bon Iver, who is nominated once again. He’s up for record of the year for “Hey Ma,” and his record “i,i” is up for Alternative Album, too.
We’ll see who the winners end up being at the end of the month, but in the meantime you can hear the episode below.
