Every morning throughout Summerfest 2024, we’ll deliver a guide that covers the day’s entertainment and how you can get in the gate free of charge. This is where you’ll find info about the AmFam Amp headliners, eclectic picks from our knowledgeable staff and the music lineup for the day (see the full 2024 Summerfest lineup here).

Today at the AmFam Amp (and staff pick #1)

AJR, Carly Rae Jepsen, MXMTOON, 7:30 p.m.

As most bands tend to do, AJR has heavily featured songs from new album The Maybe Man on their current tour, with a few favorites thrown in to create the electric live show they're known for. Their latest LP includes the dynamic range of sounds that has become the band's hallmark — loud horns, bass drops and prominent harmonies — plus a couple less-typical ballad-style tracks that pull from very personal stories. Whether they're performing something heartfelt or high energy, what it comes down to is that these three brothers can put on a show.

Radio Milwaukee staff pick #2

Say She She @ Aurora Pavilion, 7 p.m.

I just told you about one fabulous trio at the Amp, and this is another one that can’t be missed. With their modern disco style, Say She She make it so you can’t help but groove with them, utilizing beautiful harmonies wrapped around super catchy songs (one of which you might have heard in an Apple ad recently).

The group describe their latest album, Silver, as “ooz(ing) with quirk and adventure, and embrac(ing) the multifaceted nature of what it means to be a modern femme.” It’s another example of their ability to create a chill atmosphere while spreading messages they care about.

They achieve this, in part, by recording things the old-fashioned way: all three women in the studio together — an increasingly uncommon technique these days. The result is a literal group effort both on their albums and on stage. See and hear that second part in action, and have a dance party with Say She She to celebrate the end of the week!

Radio Milwaukee staff pick #3

Mt. Joy @ BMO Pavilion, 9:30 p.m.

The BMO Pavilion lineup this year has been an absolute stunner. From Brittany Howard to MUNA to Fletcher, it seems each performer who graces the stage hits the mark. And now for the real cherry on top: Mt. Joy! You’ve probably heard this band’s newest single, “Highway Queen,” on 88Nine, so you already know they live in a sweet spot at the intersection of jam band and folk music, with a strong emphasis on intentional songwriting.

On top of that, their live performances are truly something to revel in. According to their No. 1 fan (and my bestie) Brianna Buzzell, “It’s like going to a big party with best friends that you didn’t know you had, but you’ll leave with a mutual appreciation for good music and great company.”
