STEM-themed Family Fun Day is Sunday on Summerfest grounds

Milwaukee World Festival

Here’s a phrase that a certain (probably large) percentage of parents will enjoy hearing: “The last … before school starts.”

In this particular case, that blank space belongs to the third of four Family Fun Days at the Northwestern Mutual Community Park located in Henry Maier Festival Park. Taking place this Sunday, the last Family Fun Day before school starts will carry a STEM theme throughout its showcase activities, entertainment and exhibitors.

The event, which starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m., will pack plenty of family-friendly stuff in those five hours. The centerpiece is a STEM showcase featuring:

The folks from the planetarium will take the stage at 11 a.m., Club SciKidz will follow at 1 p.m., and Mad Science will wrap things up with a 2:15 p.m. performance. Beyond that, there will be exhibits and hands-on activities from Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, Soul Spin and Sunbeam Kids.

Outside of the STEM/STEAM realm, the day will include buskers like Jennifer the Stilt Walker and the Milwaukee Flyers Tumbling Team, as well as a range of food vendors: Fazio’s Popcorn Wagon, Streetza Food Truck, Pete’s Pops, Bobalou Stuffed Gourmet Pretzels & Frozen Lemonade, and Sil’s Mini Donuts.

For more information on everything planned for this Sunday’s penultimate Family Fun Day — the last one is Sept. 22, by the way — check out the event page.
