If you were in the crowd for the recent HYFIN Anti-Gala, you know at least a little bit about Your Move MKE, the South Side organization that received the Social Impact Award. On the heels of that well-deserved recognition, Your Move MKE launched ticket sales for its annual Graffiti Gallery Fundraiser, which is set for the evening of Nov. 16.
The event features a combination of activities and elements you’re just not going to find at your typical fundraising effort. The centerpiece, of course, is live graffiti art created by local artists, as well as pieces available for purchase that were made by some of our community’s younger creative talents. Art will also find its way into a silent auction that includes unique community experiences, with all proceeds benefiting the free youth programs Your Move MKE offers.
In addition, you can check out woodwork made by Urban Trade Skills, test your skills at the Hip-Hop Chess Club, move to the irresistible atmosphere created by the night’s DJ (our own Kenny Perez) and take in powerful performances from Youth Move Restorative Justice. Your ticket also includes two mixed drinks and your choice of food from Las Virellas food truck (three tacos, two pinchos or two empanadas).
Tickets for the event are currently $40 and support Your Move MKE, whose mission brings “families on the South Side of Milwaukee closer together using programs that focus on higher-level thinking and self-expression through the elements of hip-hop.”
Among their free programs is the innovative Hip-Hop Chess Club — the very first program they created — that combines hip-hop instrumentals, producing and pad-drumming with the strategic board game that dates back nearly 1,500 years. Self-expression is deeply ingrained in all their offerings, which also include Makin’ Moves Breakdancing, Restorative Justice Ciphers and Urban Trade Skills, their latest program.
You can visit the Your Move MKE website for more information about the organization and head over to the Graffiti Gallery Fundraiser Eventbrite page to pick up tickets to the Nov. 16 event.
