YMCA announces plans for annual MLK Day event

YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee

The YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee on Friday shared details for its yearly program around Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event will be held at Potawatomi Casino Hotel Event Center (1721 W. Canal St.) starting at 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20.

“As a community, we come together to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and recognize the work of local nonprofit organizations dedicated to serving others,” the organization said on its website. “The program will deepen connections as we celebrate the words and creativity of youth, listen to powerful speakers, and enjoy moving performances.”

Registration and networking will take place at 7 a.m., followed by a program and breakfast from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Among the guests expected to participate are:

  • Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers
  • Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson
  • Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley
  • Student winners of the Youth Development Writing Contest
  • Healthy Living Award winner Fondy Food Center
  • Social Responsibility Award winner Courage MKE

Registration fees for the event start at $50 for members of nonprofit organizations and $65 for members of the general public. If you’re interested in attending, visit the event page for more details.
