Every week, Milwaukee Music Premiere connects the city’s artists with our listening audience. If you’re an artist with a track you’d like us to debut exclusively on Radio Milwaukee, head over to our Music Submission page to learn how.
There are a couple things you can count on from the Milwaukee Music Premiere: a song 100% of the time and an upcoming live performance maybe 92% of the time.
Less common is a nonprofit tie-in. And a private label coffee, fine art print series and four-hour event benefiting a local organization. Such is the ambition of Sarah Fierek, founder of Illustrious Creative Works and Sincerely in Song, and the artist behind today’s premiere, “Wildflowers.”
We’ll get to the tie-ins momentarily, but let’s focus on the song first — a classic R&B jam that’s both smooth and relatively sparse. Fierek co-wrote the track with creative partner Derek Linzy, a Grammy-nominated engineer/producer who served as the audio engineer for Prince and 3rdeyegirl at the legendary musician’s Paisley Park Studios.
The pair opted for a warm foundation of keys and a repeating progression on the higher end that provides texture while combining nicely with Fierek’s delivery. Lyrically, it’s a song aimed at a partner in what sounds like a very healthy relationship, especially considering the nature-themed elements she includes throughout:
Take a walk with me hand in hand through the countryside
Exploring all of the fields with the wings of the dragonfly
All of the blossoms smell so divine
Letting our hearts set the tone, no goodbyes
We bloom forever, you and I
Forever … we bloom forever
Naturally (no pun intended), a percentage of the track’s earnings will benefit Friends of Lakeshore State Park, something Fierek does through Sincerely in Song as part of its mission to “support causes and movements with each song's flight.” On top of that, she partnered with the local organization to create an event they’re calling “Wildflowers on the Water,” which takes place on the north side of the park from 3 to 7 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 9.
You can find the performance schedule for the event below, and pick up the aforementioned private label coffee from Stone Creek here and the fine art print by Holly Harnischfeger here. Part of the proceeds from those also go to Friends of Lakeshore State Park.
