MKE Music Premiere: A poppy pep talk from Half Moon HideAway

Cameron Flynn

Every week, Milwaukee Music Premiere connects the city’s artists with our listening audience. If you’re an artist with a track you’d like us to debut exclusively on Radio Milwaukee, head over to our Music Submission page to learn how.

Sunny and upbeat. These are the adjectives you want describing a song that reminds all of us this is a nutso world we’re living in, and we should do our darndest to be happy and comfortable with ourselves.

It seems, then, that Milwaukee band Half Moon HideAway understood the assignment when recording “Nobody’s Perfect,” the track we’re premiering today and the third single off upcoming album Slow & Steady. You’ve got your bright guitar licks, jauntily steady percussion and rich, warm keys — all coming together in a way that’ll set your head bobbing side to side.

Written in the early part of 2024, “Nobody’s Perfect” was frontman Matt Froelich’s first demo because he wanted to make sure the full band could lay it down together in their initial recording session for the album. Along with Noah Bayer (keys), Ryan Schmidt (bass) and Ben Dahms (drums), Froelich crafted a “reminder to not get bogged down by the small things in life and that we’re all just humans in this crazy world trying to figure it out.” The esteem-building chorus bears that out:

Nobody’s perfect
You’ll never be if you try
So it’s not worth it
To try to be in your life
Just keep on learning
And you’ll be doing alright
Nobody’s perfect

Give yourself a little pick-me-up by hitting the “Listen” button at the top of the page, and keep your ears open for “Nobody’s Perfect” on 88Nine today at 7:30 and 11:30 a.m.; and 3:30, 7:30 and 10:30 p.m. You can also find it on streaming starting this Friday and on Half Moon HideAway’s album, Slow & Steady, in the months ahead.
