Add of the Week: Local Natives jump the gun a bit on ‘April’

Every Monday, Add of the Week unveils all the new songs going into the 88Nine on-air playlist, with one hand-picked selection put in the spotlight by music director Erin Wolf.

When the official Summerfest lineup arrived last week, you can bet we immediately scanned the list with keen eyes, looking for artists we support on our airwaves, excited to know we will soon be able to catch them live in Milwaukee. It was really exciting to see Local Natives as part of the cream of Summerfest’s indie crop, especially since the band has a brand-new record about to drop

But I’ll Wait For You is set to be shared with fans April 19 via Loma Vista Records, and to get the new-album dominoes falling, lead single “April” is the perfect jumpstart. With its big, Tame Impala-esque appeal, the track not only snags longtime fans’ ears and hearts, but also cements their exciting path of approaching tried-and-true indie rock with fresh inventiveness. Most importantly, its dance-worthiness will be a great soundtrack under the sun’s rays (say, at an outdoor festival like Summerfest).

It’s the perfect sound to herald the arrival of spring and beyond that you can listen to right here, as well as on 88Nine over the air in Milwaukee or streaming worldwide on our website and mobile app. You should also keep an ear open for this week’s other add, Lava La Rue’s “Push N Shuv,” which we've helpfully embedded below for your listening enjoyment.
