Beloit College student Amelie Lichte takes over "Uniquely Milwaukee" and finds the connection between her two summer internships: Radio Milwaukee and the Grohmann Museum.

This summer, Radio Milwaukee welcomed an intern who provided a lot of help around our Walker’s Point studios, plus some valuable perspective on something we’re bringing to Uniquely Milwaukee on this episode.

Amelie Stella Lichte, a Beloit College student majoring in studio art and minoring in museum studies, actually split her summer here in the city. At Radio Milwaukee, she learned how to craft compelling narratives and merge her academic background with real-world media experience. Meanwhile, at MSOE’s Grohmann Museum, she worked as a museum assistant, handling artifacts, supporting exhibitions and diving deeper into the world of museum studies.

As the summer neared its end, we decided to let her truly bring those worlds together and take over the podcast for an inside look at museum life, blending her passion for storytelling with her academic interests.

In an insightful interview with Marina Bernovich, the Grohmann Museum’s curator of education and outreach, Amelie explored the vital role museums play in preserving history and offering a unique space for people to connect with the past. Marina shared how her own journey into museum work was sparked by a tragic event: the fire at Brazil’s National Museum in 2018, which emphasized the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage. Together, they talk about the flexibility required in running a small museum, where staff members wear many hats to ensure the institution thrives.

Listen to this episode of Uniquely Milwaukee as Amelie reflects on her time at both internships and discovers the connection between Radio Milwaukee and the Grohmann Museum — two organizations with a similar goal: to share the human experience.
