Brewers share more details about Bob Uecker Celebration on Aug. 24

Milwaukee Brewers

A gathering we all wish wasn’t necessary is almost here. Back in April, the Brewers announced plans to celebrate the life of Bob Uecker both before and during their game Sunday, Aug. 23, against the San Francisco Giants. On Thursday, the team put a few more pieces in place so fans know what to expect at American Family Field that day.

The first thing they noted is that “numerous surprises are planned,” after which they laid out some key details. On the timing front, gates will open at 10:30 a.m., and the team is urging fans to be in their seats by 12:15 p.m. for the start of a live pregame program hosted by Bob Costas. The broadcasting legend will be joined on the field by special guests from Uecker’s life, some of whom will also participate during in-game activities and interviews.

The other pregame detail the Brewers revealed is that Ilene Graff, who played Uecker’s TV wife Marsha Cameron Owens on Mr. Belvedere, will sing the National Anthem.

In addition to the scheduled items, there will be several experiences fans can enjoy throughout the game, including four displays of Uecker memorabilia — one on each level of the stadium. All retail locations will stock limited-edition offerings for the day, such as a poster created specifically by artist Ryan Duggan and various items referencing Ueck’s iconic tag lines, as well as his less-than-iconic playing career. A portion of the proceeds from those sales will benefit charity.

The 50/50 raffle will do something similar, except with all proceeds going to charities that Uecker supported throughout his life and career.

“It is truly impossible to honor the iconic Bob Uecker in just one afternoon of celebration, but we are putting all of our resources into this special day,” Brewers president of business operations Rick Schlesinger said in a release.

“Bob truly was the embodiment of the Milwaukee Brewers, the soundtrack to our summers and the greatest ambassador to the world that Wisconsin will ever know. We miss him every day — his voice, his passion and his perfectly timed humor — but Sunday’s tribute is just the first step in continuing a celebration of his remarkable life and legacy.”

There are still a smattering of tickets available for the Aug. 24 game, which you can learn more about by visiting the dedicated webpage on the Brewers’ site.
