Curating La Alternativa every Sunday is an exhilarating experience. It allows me to delve deeply into the work of both emerging talents and established icons who have contributed to shaping the Latin alternative genre. This past weekend featured the captivating journey of Jasmine Wesley, a young Dominican-American singer-songwriter. Her story is one of courage and determination as she transitioned from a full-time managerial role to a full commitment to her own music.
For five years, Wesley juggled her passion for music with her managerial responsibilities until a pivotal moment when she sought advice from her boss on investment. His simple yet profound response, "The best investment is in yourself," resonated deeply with her. Though it might not have been intended as a prompt to leave her job, she took it as a sign to pursue her true calling and made the bold decision to depart from the restaurant business, committing entirely to her musical aspirations.
Now, music is Wesley's singular focus, and we couldn't be more thrilled to support her journey by sharing her song on the show. Wesley's latest track, "Relación," is filled with raw emotion and infectious rhythms, and is a testament to her talent and dedication. Hear that song and many more on this episode, and make sure you tune in live at 5 p.m. every Sunday on 88Nine as well as the Radio Milwaukee app.
