We shared some amazing tracks in this episode, kicking it all off with Chicago’s own Jesse Baez, whose upbringing in Guatemala allowed him to immerse himself in a rich fusion of both cultures. His artistry reflects this dual influence, blending smooth R&B vocals with vibrant Latin alternative sounds.
Baez recently dropped a brand-new project titled HENRY (High Earner Not Rich Yet). The album features a standout collaboration with Latin Grammy-nominated Latin Mafia, celebrated for their innovative approach to urban music. I'm a big fan of their distinctive sound, so it's no surprise that you'll hear their work often on La Alternativa.
We also spotlighted some incredible collaborations, including one with the multi-talented Rauw Alejandro, a global icon in reggaeton and Latin pop. Rauw, known for chart-topping hits like “Todo de Ti” and his Grammy-winning album Saturno, continues to push the boundaries of the genre with his futuristic beats and deeply emotional lyrics.
His latest track, “Se Fue” featuring the legendary Laura Pausini, is a masterclass in versatility. The song weaves together alternative sounds, R&B influences and heartfelt storytelling, underscoring Rauw’s ability to seamlessly bridge musical worlds.
Take a listen to this episode and don’t forget to tune in for a very special episode of La Alternativa on Dec. 15, when we reveal the best songs of 2024. Like all our episodes, you can catch that one at 5 p.m. Sunday on 88Nine.
