Every Monday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
If Goldfrapp, The Eurythmics, Siouxsie and Ladyhawke are your jam, the latest single from Haute & Freddy is gonna be perfect for you. “Anti-Superstar” is all wrapped up in darkly tinged ’80s new wave and spritzed with a just-so essence of Prince to give it some funked-up pop glam.
While I’m not sure where they hail from (L.A. or London are my two best guesses), I do know they have two intriguing retro-pop singles to their name and that this one is my fave so far. Find “Anti-Superstar” out now on Even If Records, and you’ll start hearing it on 88Nine on the regular starting this week.
