Every Monday, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries at 2 p.m. every Sunday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
If Goldfrapp, The Eurythmics, Siouxsie and Ladyhawke are your jam, the latest single from Haute & Freddy is gonna be perfect for you. “Anti-Superstar” is all wrapped up in darkly tinged ’80s new wave and spritzed with a just-so essence of Prince to give it some funked-up pop glam.
While I’m not sure where they hail from (L.A. or London are my two best guesses), I do know they have two intriguing retro-pop singles to their name and that this one is my fave so far.
Find “Anti-Superstar” out now on Even If Records, and you’ll start hearing it on 88Nine on the regular starting this week. You’ll also find it as the featured track on this episode of What’s All This. Listen using the player at the top of the page, then tune into 88Nine every Sunday at 2 p.m. as I harvest another bundle of fresh tracks for What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
