Milwaukee Collects at Milwaukee Art Museum

A new exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum just opened today by the name of "Milwaukee Collects." The new exhibit features artwork from private and local collections from the Greater Milwaukee area.   You can check out "Milwaukee Collects" for free this Sunday courtesy of Friends of Art, a Museum support group, in honor of their 60th anniversary.

The Milwaukee Art Museum’s entire curatorial team has brought together works from nearly 50 of the city’s most interesting private collections, bringing the community’s passion for collecting art into focus. Milwaukee Collects offers visitors a rare glimpse of artworks spanning centuries, media and artistic styles, including early American paintings, contemporary sculpture, icons of modern photography, Impressionist canvases and hallmarks of Art Deco design.

Artists represented in the exhibition include Jules Chéret, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, John Sloan, Thomas Sully, Edward Weston and many others.

Here are other things you can do that day at the Museum:

At this month’s Kohl’s Art Generation Family Sundays: About Face, children will be inspired by the various portraits of people and animals in the Museum’s Collection, and create their own unique works of art. Families will participate in hands-on activities and learn to draw facial features, sculpt with clay, meet visiting artists, watch musical performances and engage in an Emoji Art Scavenger Hunt.

There will also be live musical performance at 11am, 12pm, and 2pm.
