Milwaukee startups will pitch ideas for reducing incarceration and recidivism tonight at Sherman Phoenix

Sherman Phoenix

A little over a month ago, the startup accelerator gener8tor and the American Family Insurance Institute for Corporate and Social Impact was seeking business ideas to reduce incarceration and recidivism in Milwaukee through their Social Impact program.

Since then, several teams have been working on innovative products, ideas and businesses to tackle this serious issue in Milwaukee. Tonight at 5 p.m. at the Sherman Phoenix, five startups will pitch their ideas to the public.

Here are the startups that will be pitching tonight.

MKEing Coffee is a for-profit social impact coffee company and brand with a conscience for the City of Milwaukee, seeking a formerly incarcerated individual to join the team.

Team Todd's platform for the children of incarcerated parents redirects a generational pattern of incarceration by cultivating young entrepreneurs.

5 Star WrapAround's social network empowers formerly incarcerated people to share resources, skills, services and experiences.

The Way Out supports justice-involved job seekers by helping them to embrace their past and overcome the stigma often associated with a criminal conviction.

WeDevelop reduces recidivism and provides people with gainful employment skills by teaching incarcerated participants software development skills.

Pitching begins at 6 p.m. followed by networking. You can register for the event for free via Eventbrite.
