Saint Kate prepping new exhibition with Arts for All Wisconsin

Arts for All Wisconsin; Saint Kate — The Arts Hotel

Fall Gallery Night is fast approaching, and Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel has something special planned via a collaboration with Arts for All Wisconsin.

Starting this Friday, Oct. 18, you can visit the hotel on the corner of Kilbourn and Water to check out a new exhibition featuring artists associated with Arts for All Wisconsin. The statewide organization works with kids and adults with disabilities to expand their “capabilities, confidence and quality of life” through nearly every facet of the arts — dance, drama, creative writing, music and visual art.

The exhibition titled “The Art of Family” celebrates the many forms that families can take, with the participating artists challenged to express what family means to them. A release about the exhibition highlighted one such expression from Fred Seger, who created a “highly detailed series of drawings and collages” to explore his mother’s affection for quilting and textile practices.

“I don’t know where I would be without the support, the connection, the encouragement of the veteran community combined with the Arts for All Wisconsin community,” Seger shared in the release. “Winning a Creative Power Award in 2019 reaffirmed my confidence as an artist. I have been connected to a network of artists, and exhibition and sales opportunities, and have found a home with AFA.”

In addition to helping organize the exhibition, Arts for All Wisconsin has set up an online shop so the participating artists can sell their work, with 70% of the proceeds going to the creators and 30% to support AFA’s programs. Your first chance to see “The Art of Family” at Saint Kate, which runs through the end of the year, is an opening reception scheduled for Fall Gallery Night from 5 to 9 p.m. this Friday. The event is free and open to the public, giving you an opportunity to meet the artists and talk to them about the inspiration behind their creations.
