Marvel bites off more than it can chew with 'Eternals'

“Eternals” is the newest movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From the gate “Eternals” is a different look for the MCU. It is directed by Chloe Zhao, the Oscar winning director of the smaller indie work “Nomadland.” Its cast is sprawling and diverse, including leads from Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie and Brian Tyree Henry, who plays the first MCU character who is openly gay. “Eternals” is more internal.

The Eternals themselves are a group of earthly protectors that have been on the planet since the dawn of man. Their foil are the deviants, a superpredator who they have to kill so they don't kill all humans.

It’s a big movie that seeks to do what “The Avengers” did over 20-something movies in two and a half hours. Does it succeed? We discuss.
