“The Power of the Dog” is a Western. But it isn’t the shoot-em-up Western like “The Harder They Fall” that comes out guns blazing. “The Power of the Dog” plots slowly as the dynamic between brothers played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Jesse Plemons change when Plemons' character gets married and new members are added to the already testy relationship.
It’s a movie based on a book and it watches like one, full of inner drama played out over time as the characters develop. While watching you may wonder what is going on in each person's head. And then, after you watch the movie you will likely be thinking about it for days, putting the pieces together yourself.
