The Moth’s grandest night of storytelling comes to Turner Hall on Dec. 8

Storytelling is an art. We’re reminded of that quite a bit during the holidays as someone goes on and on and on while we nod politely and silently wish for a chunk of the ceiling to fall and end our torment.

So why not hear some good storytellers? In fact, how about the very BEST storytellers the Milwaukee area has to offer? That’s what’s on tap at Turner Hall Ballroom on Dec. 8, as the Moth presents the Milwaukee GrandSLAM Championship.

You know you’re getting pure storytelling magic because that’s why the Moth exists — to find the top true tales and give people the tools to tell them in their very best form. The ones picked from their open mics end up at GrandSLAMs like the one at Turner Hall, which will feature stories that follow the theme of “Blessings in Disguise: Tales of Unexpected Fortune.”

The stories are wildly funny, tense, horrifying and illuminating — often all at once, like the one below Vivienne Anderson told at Turner Hall in 2016. Tickets for this year’s Milwaukee GrandSLAM Championship are on sale now online and at the Riverside Theater box office.
