Here’s where to find the Traveling Beer Garden this year

A large red truck with an empty cab is parked in a city setting with a sign in front of it that reads "Traveling Beer Garden."

Is it too early to think about beer gardens? Never. So let’s all picture the green grass, the picnic tables, the sunlight filtering through nearby trees and the cold beverages as we drink in today’s fresh biergarten news from Milwaukee County Parks.

The freshest of the fresh is the schedule for this year’s Traveling Beer Garden, which very sharp readers will notice got a subtle name change for 2023 — it’s no longer Gardens, plural. The “Roll Out the Barrel” and “Pass Me a Pint” duo of tours is going away in favor of a single sojourning suds celebration hitting the eight locations listed below.

  • May 17-29: Greenfield Park
  • May 31-June 11: Froemming Park
  • June 14-25: Cooper Park
  • June 28-July 9: Grant Park
  • July 12-23: Lake Park
  • July 26-Aug. 6: McCarty Park
  • Aug. 9-27: Doctors Park
  • Aug. 30-Sept. 4: Sheridan Park

Sprecher Brewing will once again serve as primary beverage provider for the tour, which will also feature other local brews, brats, hot dogs, Milwaukee Pretzel Company products and a rotating selection of food trucks from the area. Free beer — both "root" and "adult" varieties — will again be available while supplies last on day one of every stop.

The Traveling Beer Garden also picked up another sponsor this year. Let’s continue our fun little “spot the difference” game from earlier and see if you can pick them out:

A designed graphic with a cartoon-like feel shows a red fire truck, two mugs of beer being cheers'd and a series of dates at local parks.

IT’S US!!!!

Does that mean Radio Milwaukee staff get a special insider’s discount? Sadly, no. But we’ll be very proud to provide the soundtrack while you enjoy your food and drink, as 88Nine will flow from the speakers at every Traveling Beer Garden stop and the not-so-traveling South Shore Terrace.

Speaking of which, you can find the tentative opening dates for South Shore and its permanent pals below. Here’s to warmer weather ahead and raising a glass together. Cheers!

  • South Shore Terrace: Wednesday, April 12
  • Estabrook Beer Garden: week of April 10
  • Whitnall Beer Garden: Friday, May 5
  • The Vine Humboldt: Thursday, May 25
