Two opportunities to make your next meal more eventful

Don Julio and a pair of Dans (Jacobs [left] and Van Rite) are involved in two upcoming dinner events in Milwaukee.

Each week on This Bites, dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.

Saying that eating is always fun is probably going too far. A lot of things can mess up a good plate of food or snack or sandwich. But eating, at the very least, is always an experience.

I think one of the reasons people seek out food events is because the experience is a little more controlled and thought out, increasing the likelihood of it being fun. We start this episode with two such events, the first of which happens next Friday at Saint Kate – the Arts Hotel.

On March 24, you can head to the hotel for a five-course Don Julio Tequila Dinner featuring a menu prepared by Saint Kate executive chef Paul Funk and, of course, Don Julio Tequila pairings. There will also be an ambassador on hand to talk about the brand’s varieties and history as you enjoy the food and drink in the Dark Room (presumably with the lights on).

If you think a one-chef event sounds good, how about a 10-chef experience where every single one has been recognized by the prestigious James Beard Foundation? That’s what’s happening April 25 at EsterEv, the stomping grounds of Dan Jacobs and Dan Van Rite — 2023 Beard semifinalists for Best Midwest Chef.

You can learn more about the event in Ann’s story for Milwaukee Magazine, but for now I’ll just warn you that having talent like that cooking for you doesn’t come cheap. Here’s what else we chat about on this week’s pod:
