Watch a game and play shuffleboard at Hoyt Park pavilion

It has all the usual suspects -- tall tables, a projection TV, beer -- but it's not a typical sport's bar.  At least it wasn't originally.

This week on Urban Spelunking, OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo and I are visiting the Hoyt Park Pavilion, a public building on the park's grounds, once known as the "basket room" for the adjoining municipal pool.

Built in the 1930s, the pavilion was used to store patron's street clothes -- in individual baskets -- while they enjoyed a dip in the pool. It was never terribly glamorous, just storage, for decades.

But recently, the park's facilities got an upgrade.  The pool was repaired and reopened, a beer garden went in, and the pavilion itself was restored to its original beauty.  Even the shuffle board is back.
