Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers ordered all K-12 schools to close, both public and private, in a mandate to the state Department of Health Services Friday to combat the spread of COVID-19.
The closure will take effect on Monday, March 16, with MPS set to reopen April 14 after a planned spring break, the district announced in a release.
The date of reopening is subject to change pending further information, according to an official statement.
Numerous area school districts announced cancellations earlier in the day, due to coronavirus, including many in Milwaukee's North Shore.
The following districts will be closed for four weeks, beginning on Monday, March 16, with schools tentatively resuming April 13.

- Cedarburg
- Fox Point-Bayside
- Germantown
- Glendale-River Hills
- Grafton
- Maple Dale-Indian Hill
- Mequon-Thiensville
- Nicolet Union High School
- Northern Ozaukee
- Port Washington
- Shorewood
- Whitefish Bay
Individual school districts will communicate their plans for the official date when classes will resume, according to a press release. Any further adjustments to school calendars will be handled by individual school districts, each of which are reaching out to families with additional details today.
The news comes as schools in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha, South Milwaukee, Cudahy, Franklin, Wauwatosa and others have revised or cancelled school schedules. Keep up to date with this running list on JSOnline.
