Wisconsin retailers can reopen as long as they limit customers to five at a time, under newly relaxed COVID-19 restrictions announced by Gov. Tony Evers today. The change goes into effect immediately and applies to all standalone or strip mall-based retailers.
"In addition to added flexibilities and steps we have already taken for businesses, this is another disciplined turn of the dial that will allow Wisconsin's business owners to safely get back to work and Wisconsin consumers to support their favorite local spots," Evers wrote in a statement.
In addition to allowing the reopening of businesses originally closed by his "Safer at Home" order, drive-in theaters will be allowed to reopen with some restrictions. All businesses must abide by social distancing practices. In-person service at restaurants and bars is still prohibited, and hair and nail salons will continue to remain closed.
Evers' Safer at Home order is set to expire on May 26, but the governor has been relaxing restrictions ahead of that date. In April, he announced that dog groomers, boat and kayak rental services, engine repair shops and other nonessential businesses offering curbside service could reopen. He also reopened 34 Wisconsin state parks and forests.
