The Washington County Courthouse is an 1889 architectural stunner, and and if you look close, you'll see resemblances to Milwaukee's City Hall.
That's because they had the same architect -- Henry C. Koch -- who designed the castle like courthouse just a few years before beginning work on Milwaukee's city hall.
Inside, the former courthouse seems frozen in time, boasting intricate woodwork and gorgeous stone arches. Outside, the stately motif continues with soaring red steeples and a pristine hilltop view, almost as high as the famed Holy Hill.
"It ceased operation as a courthouse in 1962 and after a number of other civil uses, the three-story building has, for the past nearly 30 years, been home to the Washington County Historical Society and the Old Courthouse Museum," writes Bobby Tanzilo in his story at OnMilwaukee.
