Former church, now event venue, persisting during pandemic

Milwaukee event venues have felt the sting of the pandemic twice -- first with the initial cancellations at the start of 2020, then again this summer with the DNC all but erased. It has been an unforgiving year.

Yet, the venues that are able to operate must find new ways to carry on, while others, like concert venues and churches, must wait it out.

This week on Urban Spelunking, we're talking about an event venue that is taking steps to safely open after being forced to rethink its business model -- St. James 1868. The venue was slated to open this year, inside a gorgeous church that bore the same name for nearly 150 years.

Owner Katie Crowle has been working for years to renovate the church and reopen as an upscale wedding venue and event venue, adding a large outdoor patio while also maintaining original charm inside.

Learn about St. James 1868 on this week's podcast, and visit OnMilwaukee for more history and pictures.
