Have you ever passed this stunning East Side mansion and wondered, "What happens in there?" It's clearly not a residence anymore, but was at at one time. So what exactly goes on at an "alumni house" anyway?
Turns out, it's mostly offices, but so much of the original details remain that imagining it as a home again doesn't seem that far off. 14 bedrooms, plus fireplaces, gorgeous wood and stained glass abound. And, of course, the requisite ballroom.
These days, all options are on the table. The Alumni House, 3230 E. Kenwood Blvd., is for sale, and the university is currently reviewing proposals for alternate uses. Considering it sits on a lakeside four acre lot -- plus the 1920 mansion -- there are a lot of possibilities.
This week on Urban Spelunking, OnMilwaukee's Bobby Tanzilo and I take a virtual tour and talk about the mansion's future. Listen below, and check out OnMilwaukee for even more info and photos.
