The first ever Milwaukee Women's Film Festival debuts this weekend

Milwaukee Women's Film Festival

This weekend (Aug 19-21) at the Underground Collaborative beneath the Grand Avenue Mall, the first ever Milwaukee Women's Film Festival will take place. The festival showcases local and worldwide films that celebrate women in film.

The festival will kick off with an opening night short and film.  The film, “The Ultimate No-Show,” is shot on an iPhone 6, and is about writer-director Laura Workman's experiences with a con man and the aftermath. The film will be preceded by the short “Final Statement,” where a woman recounts the horrific crime she committed, what led up to it, and her plea for social responsibility. Both filmmakers will be present for a Q&A afterwards.

The opening party will begin after the Q&A. The party will have pizza provided by Pizza Shuttle, the band Boom Boom Klap, and the virtual reality immersion experience “Across The Line,” which puts viewers in the shoes of a patient trying to enter a health center to obtain a safe and legal abortion. The full schedule and more information about the festival can be found on its website,
milwaukeewomensfilmfestival.com.

Admission to the opening night party is $15. General admission to films and shorts blocks is $10. Day passes are $30. Two and three-day passes are $60 and $70. Tickets can be purchased at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2586840. Festival goers can also buy tickets at the door.
