If you think you don't need a guide to Wisconsin beer and cheese, think again

The August issue of Milwaukee Magazine has 10 pages dedicated to beer and cheese pairings, makers, trends, shopping, presentation and more. Just because you're from Wisconsin doesn't mean you don't need a guide.

Each week on Radio Milwaukee, Milwaukee Magazine’s dining critic, Ann Christenson, and 88Nine’s foodie, Tarik Moody, discuss Milwaukee’s culinary and restaurant culture on This Bites. This Bites is supported by Society Insurance.

Listen to the podcast and read more below to hear us talk about Ann's beer and cheese guide (especially the Limburger she tired), Danny Boone Fest and more.

Beer and Cheese guide

The only Wisconsin beer and cheese guide you'll ever need is in Milwaukee Magazine this month. Ann teamed up with beer writer Chris Drosner to spend over a month finding the best pairings and putting together the ultimate cheeseboard. Though cheese curds and PBR have their time and place, you won't find either of those here. Ann and Chris treat beer and cheese like a delicate science in their 10-page spread.

Danny Boone Fest

DanDan restaurant is celebrating its second "Dan-niversary" in the parking lot with Boone & Crocket, live music, drinks and plenty of food. Fox Fire, Iron Grate and Snack Boys will be there. We're not sure what DanDan will be serving, but we hope there are soup dumplings.

Mequon Public Market

We've been keeping an eye on the new Mequon Public Market that's going up. We knew about Purple Door Ice Cream and Anodyne Coffee moving in, now we know more. Cafe Corazon, Beans and Barley and Bavette have just announced that they will be opening new locations there. We're still waiting on news for five more spots in the market, which is supposed to open before the end of the year.

Rumpus Room

BBQ and beer, is there a more perfect combination? On August 15, the Rumpus Room will be bringing both front and center for a night of sticky fingers and a belly full of brews. The dinner will be held in conjunction with Wisconsin's Central Waters Brewery, who will be tapping one of their exclusive 20th-anniversary beers as well as other limited-release drafts that can be hard to find in the greater Milwaukee area. Executive Chef Andrew Koser will design a full four-course menu of BBQ classics to be paired with each of the four unique beers.
