It doesn’t feel like fall, but it’s still time to talk turkey

Each week on This Bites , dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.

We’ve got a couple weeks until Thanksgiving, so it’s appropriate we had a couple turkey-related items to talk about in this week’s episode, starting with a new — and absolutely unique — restaurant opening.

It’s called 1700 Pull Up, located at 1848 W. Fond du Lac Ave., and the story behind it has a low-key “Shark Tank” vibe. Ann’s got the full story over at Milwaukee Magazine, but the quick version is that Caitlin Cullen of The Tandem decided not to reopen and instead give away the space. Rosetta Bond submitted a business plan, cooked for a tasting panel and earned the right to move operations from her house to the new location.

Where does turkey come in? One of Bond’s specialties is stuffed turkey legs, which get packed with everything from mac and cheese to yams, and will feature every Thursday. The entire menu is very much rooted in family, with Bond’s own twist to each recipe. You can hear more about it in the episode, along with:

  • Ann’s turkey talk with a local farmer that you can read in the latest issue of the magazine.
  • A review of Lebnani House, which serves up high-level Middle Eastern fare on the South Side (also in the magazine).
  • A five-course, wild-game dinner that’ll transform a room at Saint Kate - The Arts Hotel into a rustic lodge.
  • C-viche opening its second location Nov. 15, bringing Peruvian, Mexican and other Latin specialties to Shorewood.

Gobble up all that delicious content in the episode below. Then please subscribe, like, review and share wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks.
