New Greek restaurant's location is as elevated as its menu

A table with place settings sits on a balcony overlooking the Milwaukee skyline.

Each week on This Bites , dining critic Ann Christenson from Milwaukee Magazine and Radio Milwaukee’s resident foodie Tarik Moody dig into the city’s culinary and restaurant culture to help you find new spots, old favorites and the best ingestibles around Milwaukee.

The restaurant business is rotational. One place closes, another opens. But certain locations seem to get extra attention because they’re just so unique. We start this week’s episode by talking about one of those places — maybe the most high-profile one in the city, way up on Brewers Hill.

It’s a spot where you could take in the skyline along with whatever was being served. Roots was there from 2004 to 2012, then Wolf Peach took over until a somewhat-contentious closing in 2018, followed by View MKE and its pandemic-laden tenure that wrapped up in late 2020.

Now, the location will go Greek after its sale to Chicago restaurant group Avlí. Ann and I discuss the plans to bring modern Mediterranean to Milwaukee, along with a couple other news items:

  • The nomadic Winter Farmers Market is on the move again, this time relocating from the Deer District to the former Capitol Drive Lutheran Church.
  • Discourse Coffee makes some more noise downtown by teaming up with Egg & Flour for a breakfast pop-up next Sunday, Oct. 23.
  • Speaking of which, someone needs to open a Japanese breakfast place in Milwaukee. OK, not a news item. Just a plea from me.

That’s it for the begging. But I will ask you very nicely to listen to the episode below, then subscribe, like, review and share wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks.
