No these guys have no relation to Vampire Weekend except their relation of putting out great music. Vampire Hands is a band from my old stomping grounds of Minneapolis. They have been bubbling under the surface for sometime. Just like vampires, they get their strength from the blood of 60's psychedelic rock, but without imitating it. Their sound might be from the past, but it feels fresh and alive. Check out "Opium Typhoon"
This ain't strictly psych, but dudes are probably intoSIMPLY SAUCER. And if you want to play the "inspiration KEVIN BACON game" take the current Detroit garage scene highlighted by luminariesTHE DETROIT COBRAS, THE WHITE STRIPES, andTHE GO, time travel and addBOB SEGER's "Lucy Blue-era" band, and then transport said scene hefty to the Minnesota DIY art nice, where the ghosts shout Hootie Hoo andHUSKER DU. Minneapolis'VAMPIRE HANDSspace race backwards across the years amongst the rock and roll asteroids and return from the mission gifting the present day garage rock scene an unique addition to the dramatic art rock styling of bands likeROXY MUSICandKING CRIMSON. -CansaFis Foote, No Doctors, Oakland, September 2007
