Woman to Woman

This week on the 7 o'Clock sample, were are taking it back to the old school.... WAY back, to the 1930s. Yep the 1930s. While sampling technology did not yet exist, plenty of modern day artists have gone WAY back to find some funk loops.We begin the week with a throw-back from Al Bowlly. Bowlly was the UK, Bing Crosby. His smooth crooning voice was a big hit the UK in the early 1930s, and in 1934 he moved here to the states. During the early-mid 1930s, such songs as "Blue Moon", "Easy to Love", "I've Got You Under My Skin", and "My Melancholy Baby."In 1932, he recorded a cover of Bing Crosby's "My Woman"...60 years later, White Town sampled and re-worked the track for the one hit wonder... " Your Woman".Mishra ( the leader of White Town ), often incorporates political concerns in his songs veiled in terms of personal relationships (as in his only hit). After a troubled working relationship with EMI, Mishra was dropped from the label in 1997.
